No other Audi has a pep in its step quite like the Audi TT does. With its attractive design and high-power performance, it’s the perfect little coupe-convertible for both the city streets and the country backroads.

A Brief History of the Audi TT

The idea of the Audi TT appeared in 1994 when the VW Group got together to build a concept car that debuted at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor show. Audi wanted a solid car to help fill the void for a compact convertible. The TT gets its name from the Isle of Man TT motorcycle, though some attribute the name to “technology and tradition”.

Technology and Performance of the Audi TT

The tiny 2019 Audi TT has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 228 horsepower. It runs on the famous Quattro all-wheel-drive system, as well as a dual-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission. The suspension is well-tuned to give the car a quick and agile feel.

Unlike most Audi vehicles, the TT does not come with the dash-top infotainment display. Instead, the audio controls and navigation have been relocated to the Virtual Cockpit, which is Audi’s digital gauge cluster. It helps to create a more driver-focused ride.

Three Generations of the Audi TT

  • First Generation Audi TT (1998-2006)

The first-generation Audi TT was introduced in 1998 with a 1.8L turbocharged engine that offered 180 horsepower. By 2003, the car was upgraded to a 3.2L V-6 engine and all-wheel-drive. All cars post-2000 were fitted with ESP, and by 2004, a DSG gearbox.

  • Second Generation Audi TT (2006-2014)

The second-generation TT was built atop an ASF Space Frame with steel and aluminum. Though it was only available in a coupe iteration to start, a convertible was eventually added. It was fitted with a base-level 2.0L turbocharged TFSI engine.

  • Third Generation Audi TT (2014-Present)

The third-generation Audi TT is fitted with a 2.0L turbocharged engine and has upgraded the suspension. New side sills and vertical inlets were also added.

Celebrity Endorsements of the Audi TT

The Audi TT is a sporty car like no other, so it comes as no surprise that there are a few celebrities who like to have fun with theirs. Some celebrity Audi TT owners that we’ve found include TV personality Kate Gosselin, actress AnnaLynne McCord, and soccer star Ashley Cole.

Best Audi TT Groups

Though it may not be a worldwide group or club by any means, we felt that we just needed to share how legit this Las Vegas TT Club is. Very rarely do we find a group of car owners and enthusiasts with a club this well put together, so we have to give them major props!

The Audi TT – Cut From a Different Cloth

The Audi TT is easily one of the most interesting cars in the Audi lineup, as it goes against everything that you know about modern Audi cars in the first place. With that said, there is no doubt that this little monster deserves all the credit it can get, as it is one of the sweetest little speedsters on the market right now.
