It seems that these days, all car manufacturers are at war with one another in attempts to create the best crossover vehicle.

In the early days of crossover, the Chevrolet Equinox hit the market. This well-rounded crossover became a pivot vehicle for a brand that was so popular for trucks and sport-based utility vehicles at the time.

A Short History of the Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox first hit the market back in 2004 after it was introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show. It was designed as a compact crossover vehicle that would be more palatable for families that were searching for a practical vehicle that didn’t cost much to operate.

A Crossover That Is Ready When You Are – The Performance and Technology of the Chevrolet Equinox

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is powered by a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 170 horsepower. It is paired with a front-wheel-drive system, though all-wheel-drive is optional. Far better suited for the weight of the Equinox is the optional 2.0L four-cylinder engine.

The inside is very spacious with plenty of luxury features, including a variety of cup holders, a 7.0” touchscreen with Chevrolet’s MyLink system, 4G LTE-powered on-board Wi-Fi, and a massive center-console storage bin. Some of the top safety features on the Equinox include automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high-beam headlamps.

The Evolution of the Chevrolet Equinox

  • First Generation Chevrolet Equinox (2005-2009)

The first-generation Chevrolet Equinox was the very first front-wheel-drive SUV manufactured by Chevrolet. By 2007, StabiliTrak electronic stability control became standard, as well as four-wheel disc brakes.

  • Second Generation Chevrolet Equinox (2010-2017)

By 2010, the fuel economy was upgraded to give the front-wheel-drive model 27 miles per gallon. They also added FlexFuel in 2011, and MyLink is 2012, providing drivers with the first, true multimedia system.

  • Third Generation Chevrolet Equinox (2017-Present)

The third-generation Chevrolet Equinox is built on a more muscular frame with a brand new instrument panel and upgraded infotainment system.

The Chevrolet Equinox In the News

In recent Chevrolet news, GM is starting to cut back on the production of the Chevrolet Equinox at two of their large plants in North America. They don’t want the inventory to grow too high in correlation with positive sales.

Celebrity Endorsements of the Chevrolet Equinox

Though the Chevrolet Equinox doesn’t seem like your typical celebrity car, we weren’t surprised in the least to see model and actress Cheryl Tiegs driving one of these bad boys around.

Best Chevrolet Equinox Groups

If you’re an owner of a Chevrolet Equinox, one of the best online communities to discuss Equinox features, news, and fixes, is Equinox Forum.

Chevrolet Equinox – Keeping Our Eyes On the Chevrolet Equinox

Though it isn’t as rare to catch a Chevrolet Equinox compared to the actual Equinox that only happens twice a year, the crossover is still a lovely sight to see. It reminds us of the beginning of the crossover days when we only had SUVs and compact cars. To this day, the Equinox is still running strong, and we wish it the best as the crossover market continues to expand and grow.
