Chevrolet has a not-so-secret-weapon, and that weapon is known as the Chevrolet Silverado.

The Silverado has been Chevrolet’s best-selling truck for many years. With a rugged exterior, and adaptive design, and a powerful attitude, it’s a vehicle for true truck lovers.

A Short History of the Chevrolet Silverado

The Chevrolet Silverado first hit the market back in 1999 as the successor to the Chevrolet C/K line that had dominated the market from 1975 to 1998. GM began developing the truck starting in 1993, and by 1994, a final design was chosen and development began.

True Truck Power – Technology and Performance of the Chevrolet Silverado

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado gives drivers a choice between a variety of engines, including two different V-6 engines, two different V-8 engines, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and an inline-six diesel engine. Ten-speed automatic transmission is the most popular choice.

The Chevrolet Silverado is pretty versatile when it comes to selecting interior features. The top-of-the-line trim features an 8.0” infotainment system, a head-up display, in-dash navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and ventilated front seats. Some of the driver-assistance features include lane-keeping assist, pedestrian detection, and automatic high-beam headlamps.

The Evolution of the Chevrolet Silverado

  • First Generation Chevrolet Silverado (1999-2007)

The first-generation Silverado included both the 1500 and 2500 non-heavy-duty pickup trucks. A three-door extended cab was the only available model for the first year. In 2003, a reworked front-end was included on all of the models, and by 2006, the Silverado received another facelift.

  • Second Generation Chevrolet Silverado (2007-2014)

The second-generation Silverado was totally redesigned with styling cues from Chevrolet Colorado pickups. These trucks no longer had manual transmissions available in the U.S. Touchscreen navigation became standard in 2012.

  • Third Generation Chevrolet Silverado (2014-2019)

The third-generation Silverado came with three engine choices: a 4.3L EcoTec3 V-6, a 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8, and a 6.2L EcoTec3 V-8. The Chevrolet MyLink system became standard, as well as an array of other modern technological features.

  • Fourth Generation Chevrolet Silverado (2019-Present)

By 2019, the Silverado had a more sculpted design with upgraded LED headlamps, eight distinctive trims, and six different engine options.
